Apply to the Nonprofit Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship Program: March 15

The Phoenix Project NLP Class of 2007Top undergraduate and graduate students from any Virginia college or university may apply to our six-week summer program to prepare for their role as Virginia’s next generation of social entrepreneurs while serving on the front lines of one of the nation’s most economically distressed communities.  The application process is underway and students have until March 15 to complete their application online.  To learn more, click here.

 

 

 

The Phoenix Project to Build Two New Partnerships

 

In 2008, our successful university-community partnership model will take flight in two additional economically-challenged communities: Southeast Newport News with partner Christopher Newport University and the Route 1 Corridor (Lorton and Woodbridge) in Northern Virginia with partner George Mason University.  Tell me more.

New Professional Staff Join The Phoenix Project

David Carter, who formerly served on the Phoenix Project's Board of Directors as Secretary and Treasurer while practicing corporate litigation at the law firm Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC in Washington, DC, has joined our full-time staff as Director of Programs and General Counsel.  Shanice Penn, formerly a paralegal at a top international law firm in Washington, DC, has also joined us as Operations Manager.  Read the editorial published by The Progress-Index about our expanded capacity here.

 

Higher Education Advisory Team (“HEAT”) Launched 

 

Seventy leading educators affiliated with forty Virginia universities comprise a new statewide advisory team working to build the Phoenix Project’s network of partnerships between Virginia universities and our most economically distressed communities and to make the Commonwealth a destination for social enterprise.  Tell me more.

Phoenix Project Fellow Spotlight:  Purcella Smith 

 

Purcella SmithPurcella Smith is a sophomore at George Mason University majoring in Government.  She hails from Salem, Virginia.  She is so excited about her admission to the summer 2008 Nonprofit Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship Program that she is getting a head-start by working in our Northern Virginia headquarters.  Thanks, Purcella, for all you do.
